Native Peoples of the Southwest

The sacred mountains, canyons, deserts, and plains of the American Southwest are home to two distinct tribal lifestyles: sedentary farmers who herded animals and warrior groups of nomadic hunters. The Southwest region consists of the present day states of Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. The climate is governed by small amounts of rainfall in summer and snowfall on the mountains in winter, supplying water for streams, springs and water holes.
